Huawei and China Mobile Research Institute Jointly Launch the Industry’s First Super C120+L120 Single-Fiber Ultra-wide Spectrum OTN Solution

Tech

Recently, Huawei officially released the industry’s first Super C120+L120 ultra-wide spectrum OTN solution. This solution makes a historic breakthrough in the field of ultra-large single-fiber optical transmission.

The E2E Super C120+L120 ultra-wide spectrum solution consists of optical amplifiers, WSS modules, and optical transport units. This sophisticated solution uses the new erbium-doped fiber (EDF), special L120 erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) with ultra-wide gain spectrums, high-resolution LCOS, high-performance L120 WSS module with innovative spectrum shaping algorithm, and optical transport unit with L120 ultra-narrow linewidth. With these technologies, the solution doubles the available spectrum of optical fibers and maximizes the value of optical fibers.

In addition, Huawei is conducting joint innovation verification with China Mobile Research Institute. This solution lays a solid technical foundation for China Mobile to build a next-generation large-capacity and long-distance transmission system. By leveraging the advantages of existing communication networks, China Mobile Research Institute continuously seeks new technical breakthroughs in the basic research of optical communication applications to create high-speed coherent transmission systems with larger capacity and higher performance. In this way, when the backbone network is upgraded from a 200G x 80-wavelength system to a 400G x 80-wavelength system, the transmission distance can remain unchanged and the transmission capacity can double without changing the fiber infrastructure or O&M practices.

“Huawei continues to invest in innovation in the optical transmission field to make new breakthroughs,” said Victor Zhou, President of Huawei’s Optical Transmission Domain. “We believe that the Super C120+L120 ultra-wide spectrum solution will help customers greatly improve the fiber transmission capacity, reduce the per-bit cost and power consumption, as well as achieve green, energy-saving, and sustainable development.”

Li Han and Zhang Dechao from China Mobile Research Institute said, “China Mobile is committed to building an optical transport network, an optical base with leading technologies and energy-saving bearer capabilities. China Mobile also keeps researching innovative technology applications. In spectrum expansion, the innovative C120+L120 solution provides 12 THz spectrum, which is 25% wider than that of the C96+L96 solution. This solution can better cope with the bandwidth growth challenges brought by the ‘east-to-west computing resource transfer’ project.”
