Here’s the shortlist for NYPL’s 2021 Young Lions Fiction award.

The New York Public Library has announced its finalists for the twenty-first annual Young Lions Fiction Award, which is given each year to an American writer age 35 or younger for a work of fiction. The finalists were chosen by committee of writers, editors, and librarians; the winner, who will receive $10,000, will be selected by a judging panel made up of Hernan Diaz, Emma Straub, and Yahdon Israel. The finalists are:

Meng Jin, Little Gods
Catherine Lacey, Pew
Hilary Leichter, Temporary
Brandon Taylor, Real Life
C Pam Zhang, How Much of These Hills Is Gold

The winner will be announced in a virtual ceremony on June 17.
